No Double-Decking in 101 Freeway Expansion Plans

Concerned residents along the 101 Freeway corridor attended a community workshop on Monday, May 5 organized by Caltrans and various other agencies on informing the public on future expansion of the freeway. Over half-dozen East Hollywood residents, as well as people from central Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley attended. To the public's delight, their fears of a "double-decked" Hollywood Freeway were put to rest, as the 101 Freeway Corridor Study's Technical Advisory Committee found the double-deck plans not only unpopular by residents, but very costly as well. Instead, the Committee decided on a $3.4 billion multimodal contingency plan for the freeway corridor which would comprise of widening the freeway to a maximum of seven lanes each way, including adding two carpool/HOV lanes in each direction. Other improvements in the package include widening on- and off-ramps, improving arterial surface street flow via improved technology, and increasing and improving Metro Rail. Metrolink and Metro Bus service in the vicinity of the corridor.

EHCA Meeting Moved

For the first time ever, the EHCA is moving its meeting to a location outside East Hollywood. The EHCA is requesting its members instead attend the 101 Freeway Expansion Community Workshop on Monday, May 5 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, 1760 Gower Street (right at the 101 Freeway). Parking is available on Carlos Avenue.
